Our History & Achievements

Founding: In late February 2010, 13 pioneers met at the 'Hope' public house in Brighton. They became the founding members of the Brighton Tram 53 Society, officially established in May 2010.

Growth: Today, our community has grown to 74 passionate members who drive the society forward.

Restoration: We have successfully restored Tram 53 to an exceptionally high standard of historical originality.

Finances: Over the past 16 years, we have invested more than £100,000 into the project while maintaining a healthy financial position, with a current bank balance exceeding £25,000.

Future Outlook

Homecoming: As we approach the near-completion of the tram, we have entered negotiations to bring '53' home to Brighton.

Expansion: We are actively seeking premises to establish a permanent tram shed, workshop, and museum, alongside laying down a dedicated tramway.

New Roles: Once our permanent home is secured, we will introduce a variety of new operational roles for members who wish to help run the tram for the public.

Membership & How to Join

Support Member: Perfect if you wish to fund (memmembership fee) our mission without participating in weekly restoration activities.

Active Member: Ideal if you want to get hands-on with restoration work or assist with society promotion.

Benefits: All members receive our digital progress magazine twice a year to stay updated on our journey. With opportunity to attend our yearly AGM. Access to the workshop to view tram.

Annual Rate: £20 for a 12-month membership.

Lifetime Rate: £200 for a lifetime membership.

Current Appeals

Tram 53: We need extra hands right now to put the final, completing touches on Tram 53.

Tram 1: New members are also needed to help us launch our next major project: the restoration of Tram 1.
